Ever Wonder Why So Many People Think Christians Are a Bunch of Ignorant Bigoted Zealot Fuckholes?

If so, I have an answer for you. This is why so many people think Christians are a bunch of ignorant bigoted zealot fuckholes. It’s because of assholes like Jerry Falwell who blame 9/11 on the gays. It’s because of people like Pat Robertson who say things like this:

Haitians were originally "under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil," said the 80-year-old former presidential candidate.

"They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it’s a deal," the televangelist said.

"Ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other."

Really Pat? Is that so? Well, good to know I suppose, but… uh, so what? Let’s just jump on the nutjob bandwagon for a moment and say that Mr. Robertson is right. Let’s just pretend that the slave led revolution in Haiti succeeded because they had agreed to serve the devil. Does that mean that we shouldn’t be concerned about all the people suffering? Does that mean that people shouldn’t donate to charities that are trying to help the Haitians who were affected by the earthquake? If that’s what it means then I can almost see where you’re coming from, I mean if you’re trying to convince people not to help then this is a good argument. Well, assuming you’re talking to someone who not only believes in your God but also thinks that anyone who doesn’t serve your God deserves to be left to suffer horrible things even after their initial “punishment”.

However, if you’re in any way a decent human being and you’re NOT trying to stop efforts to lessen the suffering in Haiti, then this was just a stupid fucking thing to say. Whether it’s true or not is irrelevant. If you believe people should be donating time and money and whatever else to help these people, there is absolutely no reason to bring something like this up. None. At all. Which I think brings us to the crux of the reason people hate you and all of the Christians who are anything like you. We hate you because even those of us who aren’t Christian know that Jesus weeps when you act like such a huge hypocrite. You go through the motions of his teachings, doing things like feeding the homeless or donating to charity, but then you also chastise and blame them for their situation. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a story about Jesus where he’s doing shit like that. He’s always helping someone and then telling them they should accept the one true God and then he moves on to the next person to help. He didn’t preach and preach and preach to the people who weren’t interested. He went out and set an example and then everyone who was interested in hearing more of what he had to say could go and hear him preach later. But none of the people who carried on his ideas after he died seemed to get that. They insisted on being huge hypocritical douches.

That is why so many people think Christians are a bunch of ignorant bigoted zealot fuckholes.

  1. Yeah, I wasn’t impressed with his comment either, and prominent church leaders like him have really given Christ and other believers a dreadful reputation.

  2. Wow… That first article is just…disgusting. First, it bothers me that the military wouldn’t have noticed something like that from the beginning. Second, it infuriates me that so many Christians seem to think that they need to bring overt Christianity into EVERYTHING THEY DO. Especially when what they’re doing is manufacturing equipment to KILL PEOPLE WITH. Gaahhh…

I love the second article though, that is fantastic. It’s too bad there’s no chance of the point penetrating the miles and miles of skull between it and Pat Robertson’s brain…

And we’re back to being disgusted with the third article… Fucking hell. Seriously? I really badly want to see a news report showing one of the affected Haitians angrily destroying a huge stack of these and then screaming into the camera, “You think we need electronic gizmos right now?? We fucking need FOOD and MEDICAL ASSISTANCE and SHELTER!! You FUCKING ASSHOLES!!”

Thank you for the links Storm ^_^

  3. Holy Generalizations Batman!!

But yeah, Robertson did not speak wisely…to say the least.

Hint: He’s probably not a real Christian, but that would be judging, so I’ll stop there. 🙂

  4. Yea, it was a bit generalized, but I didn’t say all people think Christians are a bunch of ignorant bigoted zealot fuckholes. I said some. And it’s true, some people do think that. I’ve met more than a couple people who will give a blanket statement that they don’t like Christians. I supplied fun adjectives, but there are people who would probably whole-heartedly agree with the description. So I stand by it what I wrote ^_^

  5. Indeed.

However I would dispute the idea that all believers in Jesus can even be grouped under a common term, but that’s just me. For example, I’d call most of them heretics, but I don’t because its not polite. 😛

  6. This ‘blaming the victim’ position is not unique to certain branches of Christianity; other religions espouse opinions like this too from time to time. Some of it (like the Pat Robertson stuff) is cruel; others are just morally lazy and frightened and jump to this position because too much analysis would lead them to uncomfortable conclusions about structural unfairness in our societies, or to question the potential human causes behind (some) environmental catastrophes/pollutions….
Some Eastern religions conveniently use simplistic terms like “Karma” to blame people for misfortunes that they “deserve”. This is ridiculous, but common unfortunately.
