Presented without comment, because if I comment it’s just going to be a whole lot of cursing and unintelligible characters.
During my unemployment I have been devouring a great deal of media. None of it is really all that new, I won’t be recommending any of the "new, hot" TV shows or any movies that are out in theatres (since I haven’t been to one since Alice in Wonderland). But you may not have seen or read these things and I think they’re worthy of praise and sharing with others.
- Orson Scott Card. Really, I recommend pretty much any of his novels/series. They’re all brilliant despite the fact that as far as I can tell he’s kind of an asshole and definitely a bigot. Right now though I mostly want to pimp the second half of the Ender series, the books that focus on Bean. Ender’s story was brilliant, but I think the characters in Bean’s story are far more likable. The only thing I wish is that Card could fully develop every character, not just one or two of them.
- Jenna Jameson. Oddly enough, I haven’t actually seen any of her porn. I started reading her autobiography one day in a book store while I was waiting for The Keeper to find whatever he was looking for. It was only out in hardback when I started reading it, and I wasn’t about to pay the thirty-some dollars it cost to buy it, but every time I went into the bookstore I would pick it up and read a little more. It’s finally come out in paperback, so I bought it today and I have to say, this girl is fascinating. I should see if she has a blog… Anyway, yea, I’m recommending her book, because it’s brilliant.
- Burn Notice. The Keeper and I have been watching Burn Notice. We have one disc left of the first season. It’s a USA show, so there’s only so much you can expect from it, but it’s pretty good. The main characters are pretty entertaining and it has Bruce Campbell in it. Really, that’s all you need, but there’s also a lot of eye candy besides Bruce (who looks really, really good for a guy his age) and the show is just fun.
- Demolition Man. An oldy but a goody. Watched this for the first time in ages last night and I have to say that for a cheesy early 90s Stallone movie, it’s really a lot less cheesy than I remember. Plus it has Denis Leary in it. All sorts of awesome.
And I think that’s all I have for now. Enjoy!
I just saw this picture over at Fail Blog.
So, there wasn’t a single person who was either in on the decision to put up this sign or walking by when it was being put up who thought to point out how stupid this was? Seriously? THIS kind of shit is why Baptists in particular get picked on so much. Well, this and all the stupid shit the Westboro Baptists do…
If so, I have an answer for you. This is why so many people think Christians are a bunch of ignorant bigoted zealot fuckholes. It’s because of assholes like Jerry Falwell who blame 9/11 on the gays. It’s because of people like Pat Robertson who say things like this:
Haitians were originally "under the heel of the French. You know, Napoleon the third, or whatever. And they got together and swore a pact to the devil," said the 80-year-old former presidential candidate.
"They said, we will serve you if you will get us free from the French. True story. And so, the devil said, okay it’s a deal," the televangelist said.
"Ever since they have been cursed by one thing after the other."
Really Pat? Is that so? Well, good to know I suppose, but… uh, so what? Let’s just jump on the nutjob bandwagon for a moment and say that Mr. Robertson is right. Let’s just pretend that the slave led revolution in Haiti succeeded because they had agreed to serve the devil. Does that mean that we shouldn’t be concerned about all the people suffering? Does that mean that people shouldn’t donate to charities that are trying to help the Haitians who were affected by the earthquake? If that’s what it means then I can almost see where you’re coming from, I mean if you’re trying to convince people not to help then this is a good argument. Well, assuming you’re talking to someone who not only believes in your God but also thinks that anyone who doesn’t serve your God deserves to be left to suffer horrible things even after their initial “punishment”.
However, if you’re in any way a decent human being and you’re NOT trying to stop efforts to lessen the suffering in Haiti, then this was just a stupid fucking thing to say. Whether it’s true or not is irrelevant. If you believe people should be donating time and money and whatever else to help these people, there is absolutely no reason to bring something like this up. None. At all. Which I think brings us to the crux of the reason people hate you and all of the Christians who are anything like you. We hate you because even those of us who aren’t Christian know that Jesus weeps when you act like such a huge hypocrite. You go through the motions of his teachings, doing things like feeding the homeless or donating to charity, but then you also chastise and blame them for their situation. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a story about Jesus where he’s doing shit like that. He’s always helping someone and then telling them they should accept the one true God and then he moves on to the next person to help. He didn’t preach and preach and preach to the people who weren’t interested. He went out and set an example and then everyone who was interested in hearing more of what he had to say could go and hear him preach later. But none of the people who carried on his ideas after he died seemed to get that. They insisted on being huge hypocritical douches.
That is why so many people think Christians are a bunch of ignorant bigoted zealot fuckholes.
